Trends in Microbiome and Digital One Health

Georgios Miliotis is a Lecturer in the Discipline of Bacteriology, a member of the Antimicrobial Resistance and Microbial Ecology (ARME) Group and the Centre for One Health. Georgios graduated from the University of Edinburgh with a BSc (Hons) in Molecular Biology in 2011. He then went on to complete a PgDip in Pharmaceutical Analysis at the University of Strathclyde in 2012 and an MRes in Medicine at the University of St Andrews in 2013. In 2014, he was awarded a Marie-Curie fellowship joining the Pasteur Institute of Athens as part of the pan-European consortium ITN-CycloN-Hit. He completed his PhD in 2019. The same year, Georgios joined the Clinical Translational Research and Innovation Centre at Ulster University, as a Post-Doctoral research associate, working on characterising the human microbiome in relation to mental health disorders. He joined the Discipline of Bacteriology at the University of Galway as a Lecturer in 2020. 

His research focuses on three main thematic areas: (i) Applying a one-health approach to combatting antimicrobial resistance (ii) Understanding the effects of spaceflight on microorganisms (iii)  Exploring the links of the human microbiome with mental health disorders. He is also interested in examining and understanding non-trivial quantum phenomena under physiological conditions.
