Biography

Alya A. Arabi is an Associate Professor of Chemistry at Zayed University, Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (UAE). Dr. Arabi is an Honorary Lecturer in the Department of Chemistry at the University College London, UK, and also an Associate Member of the School of Graduate Studies at the University of Lethbridge in Canada. She received her Ph.D. in Chemistry from Dalhousie University, Canada in 2012. Prior to starting her graduate studies, in 2008, Alya was awarded a Bachelor of Sciences Honours degree with highest aggregate from Mount Saint Vincent University joint with Dalhousie University, Canada. Alya is the recipient of prestigious academic awards including the Killam Predoctoral Scholarship, Alexander Graham Bell Canada Graduate Scholarship, and Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council Graduate Scholarship-Doctoral. In 2012, Alya was lecturer at Mount Saint Vincent University in Canada. She then moved to the UAE to accept, in 2013, an adjunct faculty position at Abu Dhabi University for one year. In 2014, she joined, as assistant professor (2014-2018), the College of Natural and Health Sciences at Zayed University, UAE. Dr. Arabi's research interests lie in the investigation of chemical and biochemical systems using computational tools. In particular, she is interested in 1) investigating the effect of external factors such as electric fields and intercalators on mutations in DNA, and 2) bioisosterism in drug design.
