Computational Advances in Structural Biology

Rebecca Thompson is a biologist with expertise in structural biology, particularly in the use of cryo-electron microscopy to study macromolecular complexes at high resolution. She received her undergraduate degree in Molecular Biology from Cardiff University and went on to earn her PhD in 2016 from the University of Leeds, where she studied how misfolded protein aggregates interact with cellular membranes. After completing her PhD, she joined the Astbury Biostructure Laboratory as a cryo-electron microscopy support scientist and was later promoted to Facility Manager. In this role, Rebecca manages the Electron Microscopy Facility, which is equipped with state-of-the-art equipment, including two Titan Krios transmission electron microscopes. She also provides scientific support to researchers across the University and beyond.
